An incentive spirometer is a medical device used to help improve lung function, particularly after surgery, illness, or during recovery from respiratory conditions. It encourages deep breathing, which can aid in expanding the lungs and clearing mucus from the airways. It's commonly used in post-operative care, especially after abdominal or chest surgery, to prevent pneumonia and improve overall lung capacity.

Instructions:
Sit up straight in a comfortable chair or position, ensuring that your back is supported and your chest is open. This helps you take full breaths and expand your lungs.
Before using the spirometer, exhale completely to empty your lungs as much as possible.
Hold the incentive spirometer and place the mouthpiece into your mouth. Ensure that your lips form a tight seal around the mouthpiece to prevent air from escaping.
Take a slow, deep breath in through the mouthpiece, as deeply as you can. Try to raise the piston or ball inside the spirometer as high as possible. This indicates that you are expanding your lungs fully.
Once you reach the maximum inhalation, hold your breath for about 3 to 5 seconds (or as directed by your healthcare provider).
After holding your breath, exhale slowly through your mouth. Do not forcefully blow air out; allow your exhalation to be gradual.
Look at the piston or ball in the spirometer and note how high it rose during your inhalation. Aim to reach or exceed this target with each breath.
Repeat the deep breath and hold process about 10 times in one session (or as recommended by your healthcare provider). Take a rest if needed between breaths.
After completing a set of deep breaths, you may be encouraged to cough gently. This helps clear mucus from the lungs and keeps the airways clear.
Product Maintenance:
Clean regularly after each use to maintain hygiene and proper performance.
Use a soft cloth or sponge to wipe the device, paying close attention to any parts that may come into direct contact with your mouth.
Store it in a clean and dry place when not in use to prevent any damages from moisture or dirt.
